Lion's mane and cordyceps are two of the most popular functional mushrooms, and they're often mentioned together. They're used for different things, though. The short version: lion's mane is about your head, cordyceps is about your energy.* Here's how to choose, or whether to take both.
The quick answer
- Choose Lion's Mane if you want daily support for focus, memory and mental clarity.*
- Choose Cordyceps if you want natural, stimulant-free support for energy, stamina and endurance.*
- Choose both if you want focus in the morning and energy in the afternoon.*
Lion's mane: for focus and memory
Lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a shaggy white mushroom traditionally used to support cognition.* It naturally contains compounds called hericenones and erinacines, which researchers continue to study. It isn't a stimulant, so it doesn't feel like coffee. People take it for steady, everyday support while studying, working or anything that needs a clear head.*
Who tends to choose it: students, professionals, writers, and anyone who wants a daily focus habit without more caffeine.
When to take it: Most people take it in the morning. See When Is the Best Time to Take Lion's Mane?
Cordyceps: for energy and endurance
Cordyceps is used to support energy, stamina and endurance, and it has a long history in traditional Chinese and Tibetan practice.* Our gummies use Cordyceps militaris, a cultivated species that is a natural source of cordycepin. Like lion's mane, it contains no caffeine and isn't a stimulant.
Who tends to choose it: runners, lifters, busy parents, and anyone who wants afternoon energy support without another coffee.*
When to take it: Many people take it in the afternoon or 30 to 60 minutes before a workout. See Cordyceps vs. Caffeine.
Side by side
- Mushroom: Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) vs. Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris)

- Common timing: morning vs. afternoon or before a workout
- Caffeine: none in either
- Our gummy flavor: strawberry vs. watermelon
- Per gummy: 125mg USDA Organic fruiting-body extract (8:1, equal to 1,000mg of mushroom) in both
- Suggested use: 2 gummies per day for both
Can you take lion's mane and cordyceps together?
Yes. Many customers take both, and they're often paired because they support different things.* The most common routine is:
- Morning: 2 Lion's Mane gummies with breakfast or your coffee
- Afternoon: 2 Cordyceps gummies after lunch or before a workout
You can also take them at the same time if that's easier to remember. Consistency matters more than the exact hour. If you take medication or other supplements, check with your healthcare provider first.
Still not sure? Ask yourself one question
What do you notice most during the day: losing focus, or running low on energy? If it's focus, start with lion's mane. If it's energy, start with cordyceps. Give it a few weeks of daily use before deciding how it fits your routine.* Results vary from person to person.
